Dutchess Tourism’s Farm Fresh tours program is designed to enhance awareness and understanding of the role that farms, agriculture and food/beverage play in our daily lives, all while developing new markets for local farmers and providing new experiences for visitors.
In particular, it opens up opportunities for bringing a greater number of visitors into our region, including visitors of diverse social and economic backgrounds who reside in previously untapped markets and have limited transportation options. These points are critical to highlight, as local farmers and producers have identified the greater metro-New York region as a key area.
To tap this market, transportation limitations must be overcome if we are to be successful in driving future growth and development. We partner with Metro-North to bring the guests up by rail, then we provide bus transportation around the county to visit the farms all day, and then bring them back to the train station.
We also have printed and online educational materials.
